About

I’m Marci Whitehurst and I’m glad we are connecting! I’m a ranch wife, a mother to three kids, a writer, and crew cook. I love meeting others, whether we are like minded or share different opinions.

In my early years, I lived in town, but as an eighteen-year-old girl, I fell in love with my husband and agriculture. Since then, we’ve worked on different cattle ranches. About fourteen years ago, we began a cattle herd of our own. We started with a large herd of ten cows that made the neighbors laugh…but everyone has to start somewhere when trying to achieve their dreams! We grew it into a larger herd of over 125, with the intention of continuing to grow.

We own a small ranch in southwest Montana and we love talking about the daily grind, the industry of agriculture, faith, and family.

Please comment and share your own story. Connection is good!

  1. Marci…. I read your article in Progressive Cattle. I run 150 head of cattle on a 6 mos. permit and raise alfalfa for my own use and commercially on approx. 640 irrigated acres. No flood or gated pipe all irrigated. My husband passed away 5 years ago and i’ve Put the ranch on the market. We’re over the border in Wyoming. If you are interested in your search… go to Ranchsoup.com It is about us and our ranch. Most pics of our property and lifestyle. Terrific hay base. Cheaper than MT to live here. I think my guesthouse was made for you. Kate

We have a small commercial cow/calf ranch in northern California outside of Redding. I just read your article in the Progressive Cattleman magazine about the elk calf. At least 10 years ago we had a yearling elk cow come and stay with our cows for a month or so until we gathered.

Sorry the picture isn’t great.  It is a picture of a picture.  It’s funny you have been to Redding.  We are about 6 miles east of Redding.  We had a small herd of elk we would see occasionally until the Jones fire.
