My grandmother is 93 years old and still tells me remedies that she remembers her parents using around the farm.
I love these stories because I grew up in town and my grandmother has lived in town since I’ve been alive, so it seems almost magical to envision “farm life” in the 1930’s. I know life during that time period was anything but magical, but to me, the stories were interesting.
Not everything she shared were stories though. She says coca cola will clean almost anything. She also says silver will kill sweeny in a horse. Bag balm will fix an infected udder. A sulfur bath with kill all the ticks off of sheep.
In high school, I didn’t think I’d need to know these things, but now twenty two years later, I’m intrigued. I’ll be researching and growing this page to share with you any tidbits I find. Old wives tales are often helpful and grandma’s tips may just come in handy.
